On Monday, the 20th day of November in the year 2017, we will have a class event that will be the culmination of your family history research project. Focusing on one culture in your background (i.e., German, Kenyan, Chilean, Jewish), you will cook and share a meal with your classmates and their families. Dressed in traditional garb from your chosen culture, you will also deliver an homage and perhaps share a custom with the friends and family assembled.
YOU must prepare the following four (4) items, and they will count as a project grade.
Requirements 1. Culinary Contribution
YOU must shop for and prepare a customary dish for our Feast. It should feed 10-12 people.
On a 3x5 index card, write: the name of the dish, the country of origin, and your name
Bring your dish to Sprague between 7:45 and 8:00am the morning of the feast, with a note regarding warming/serving instructions
2. An Homage
Prepare a toast to an ancestor or relative. You want to toast an attribute, personality trait or achievement of this person. We want to honor those who came before us. Do not brag, but pick a good adjective. “I would like to propose a toast to...”
3. The Vestiges of Old
Create a traditional costume or modern adaptation of traditional fabrics and design from your culture. Remember, most immigrants were poor. Start by digging in your parents’ closets, and use your imagination.
4. Be the Standard-bearer
You will create the flag of the country/culture you are representing.
Extras 5.Tools of the trade
You may bring in a maximum of two artifacts that represent your family/country/culture.
6. Sounding a note
You may also contribute a traditional song, dance or demonstration of your culture. Individually or jointly, you may research and perform during the Feast. You performance must be approved before the Feast.
